Three police officers have been killed in a shooting in the US state of Kentucky. A police dog was also shot dead. In addition, five colleagues were injured in an hour-long confrontation with a gunman.
The officers visited the suspect in Allen after a report of domestic violence. The man opened fire on the officers. What exactly happened is still unclear.
The local sheriff spoke of “an absolute hell” in which the officers had ended up. According to him, the perpetrator had a preconceived plan to attack the officers. “They didn’t stand a chance.”
The 49-year-old gunman was persuaded to surrender after an hours-long stalemate, including after talks with family members. He’s been charged with murder.
