Mesa police shoot at suspect during traffic stop

MESA, Arizona — The Mesa police are conducting an investigation after a suspect fled during a traffic stop early Saturday morning.

Approximately 1:45 a.m., according to Sgt. Chuck Trapani, officers were attempting to remove the driver from the vehicle during a traffic stop near McKellips Road and Country Club Drive. Uncertainty surrounds the circumstances leading up to the shooting, but according to the sergeant, at some point the driver fled westbound on Ivyglen Street. An officer fired upon the suspect’s vehicle as it traveled westbound.

No officers sustained injuries. The suspect’s vehicle and a description of the suspect have not been released. The police are uncertain as to whether the suspect was struck. Currently, an investigation is underway.
