Mesa police officers shoot man during traffic stop

MESA, Ariz. – A man was reportedly shot by Mesa police officers during a traffic stop near Sossaman and University Drive on Friday night, prompting an investigation.

On June 24, at approximately 9:30 p.m., two officers conducted a traffic stop. The driver, a 54-year-old man, was “somewhat evasive and unwilling to stop,” according to the police.

The man allegedly fired a gun while officers were speaking with him, prompting police to shoot him.

It is unknown whether the driver fired at them or what precipitated the shooting.

The driver was hospitalized, but his condition is stable.
