Driver in stolen car hits Tolleson Police vehicle

TOLLESON, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) — Thursday afternoon, a driver in a stolen vehicle struck a Tolleson Police Department vehicle, resulting in the hospitalization of a police officer. At 4 p.m., officers discovered the stolen vehicle at a Circle K at 91st Avenue and Van Buren, according to the police. Officers attempted to apprehend the suspect, but he got into his car and fled. According to a statement from the department, the driver then collided with a police vehicle, trapping an officer in the door frame of the police vehicle. The officer was transported to the hospital with a leg and ankle injury and is currently in stable condition.

The driver continued driving and struck another vehicle on 91st Avenue. The officers then surrounded the vehicle and arrested the suspect. The four adults in the second vehicle are in stable condition, according to police. Officers have not yet made the suspect’s identity public. Ongoing investigation into the entire incident.
